48hfp 2011: Genre Shake-Up

Once again, the 48hfp genres are changing! OK, so they aren't really changing by much, they kind of just moved a couple of last year's wild card genres into the main genre list. Yikes.

But they did retire a few genres this year including our beloved Buddy Film (aka, From Behind the Cornhole circa 2009).

The other 4 genres retiring for 2011, I'm not gonna miss:

  • Drama (snooze fest)
  • Film Noir (who wants to film all night Friday?)
  • Road Movie (seems too big for a 4-minute film)
  • Silent Film (hallelujah! this one scared me the most)
Oh, and they added a brand new category this year. They didn't explain it but it probably doesn't really need explanation. In honor of 48hfp's 10th birthday, they've added a Birthday/Anniversary genre. Interesting. I already have a few ideas percolating on this one, I think it could be fun and different. Erin's birthday is the week of the contest. Kora's birthday is the week after. Just sayin'.

They've also brought back a few older genres that we didn't see last year. Thankfully they threw them into the wildcard list: Coming of Age, Family, War/Anti-War.

Anyway, without further ado, the official genre and wildcard lists for 48hfp 2011 are:

At the Kickoff Event, each team draws one of these genres from a hat.
